The UK government has announced plans to require all new homes and buildings in England to be fitted with rooftop solar panels, cutting energy bills and driving the country toward net zero.
At Wright Renewables, we welcome this bold step and are ready to support developers and homeowners in Worksop, South Yorkshire, and Nottinghamshire to get ahead of the changes.
“This isn’t just a box-ticking exercise. Solar PV is a reliable, proven technology that can start saving households money from day one,” says Lee Rolfe, Managing Director of Wright Renewables.
“We’ve been installing rooftop solar systems across the region for years, and we’re ready to help builders and buyers make the most of this policy.”
Under the proposed Future Homes and Buildings Standards, which are out for consultation, rooftop solar panel installations will become a legal requirement on new residential and commercial properties. This shift aims to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and accelerate the UK's transition to low-carbon energy.
According to the government press release, the policy is expected to save occupants hundreds of pounds a year on energy bills while significantly reducing emissions.
From a solar installation perspective, building solar PV systems into new developments is much more cost-effective than retrofitting them later. It also means:
With solar panel installers in Worksop like Wright Renewables already supporting top-tier partners such as OVO Energy, the region is well-placed to lead the transition.
Whether you're a developer planning a new site or a homeowner commissioning a bespoke build, our team offers full-service solar PV system design, installation, and maintenance. We use high-performance components, detailed shading and orientation analysis, and tailored setups to ensure the system suits the property, and keeps delivering for years to come.

“What matters most isn’t just meeting new rules—it’s building homes that are truly energy-smart,” adds Adam Roberts, Commercial Director at Wright Renewables. “We're ready to support construction firms and local authorities in making this transition smooth, affordable, and future-facing.”
Fitting solar panels is a brilliant first step, but why stop there?
With the right system, the electricity you generate during the day can be used to power your heating and hot water too. That’s where air source heat pumps come in. By combining rooftop solar with a high-efficiency heating system, you can dramatically reduce your reliance on the grid and protect yourself against rising energy costs.
At Wright Renewables, we install the award-winning Vaillant aroTHERM plus, one of the most advanced and efficient air source heat pumps available in the UK. Quiet, compact and highly reliable, the aroTHERM system is a perfect match for homes using solar PV.
“We’ve found that customers who install both solar and a heat pump see the biggest gains,” says Lee Rolfe, Managing Director. “The combination creates a self-reinforcing energy system, clean, low-cost, and future-ready.”
And thanks to our Vaillant Advance Master Tech Installer status, our customers benefit from up to 7 years of warranty cover and a level of service that goes beyond basic installation.

The consultation period is currently open, and final regulations are expected to come into force in 2025. Forward-thinking developers should start planning for compliance now, not just to meet standards but to exceed customer expectations.
