Solar & Battery Installation in York Detached New Build

Julie, a York homeowner, wanted to reduce her bills, improve her home’s value, and play her part in moving to greener energy. Wright Renewables, working in partnership with OVO Solar & Heating, installed a 12-panel solar PV system with battery storage , a complete package designed to deliver both savings and energy independence.

The Installation

• 12 × 440W Jinko Tier 1 all-black panels – sleek, efficient, and backed by a 25-year warranty.
• Fox ESS H1 5kW hybrid inverter – designed for seamless grid and battery connection.
• Fox ESS EP5 5.18kWh battery – providing reliable storage and maximising self-consumption.
• Bird Blocker protection – ensuring long-term system efficiency by preventing nesting.

The system was installed neatly on Julie’s south-east facing roof in Brafferton, York, with the inverter and battery positioned indoors for convenience and safety.

About the Components

The Solar Panels

We fitted 12 Jinko 440W all-black monocrystalline panels. These are Tier 1 panels – meaning they come from one of the world’s most reliable manufacturers – and are built to last with a 25-year warranty. Their sleek design blends into the roof while delivering strong performance throughout the year.

The Inverter

At the heart of the system is the Fox ESS H1 5kW hybrid inverter. This smart unit converts solar power into electricity you can use at home, while also directing excess power into the battery. With IP65 weather protection and a 10-year warranty, it’s built for long-term reliability.

The Battery

Julie’s home is fitted with the Fox ESS EP5 5.18kWh lithium-ion battery. This slim, wall-mounted unit stores surplus solar energy during the day so it can be used in the evening, cutting reliance on the grid. With modular design, it can be expanded in future to meet growing energy needs.

Savings & Payback

With electricity prices at 24.86p per kWh, Julie’s system is projected to:

• Save £584 a year on electricity bills.
• Earn £400 a year through the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG).
• Deliver £29,760 in combined benefits over 25 years.
